Founded by a group of enthusiastic Cargo Agents, motivated by the common need for representation and for a meeting point among the freight forwarders of Latin America, it was conceived with the intention of achieving the following objectives:
• The hierarchic organization of the activities of Cargo Agents as professionals who create, promote, improve, provide technical advice for, and international trade facilitation.
• The defense of the rights and interests of its members within the strictest commercial ethics.
• The promotion of the development of international freight in the region covered by the Federation, collaborating with domestic and international institutions for the improvement of transportation and the polishing up of their infrastructure and systems.
• Obtaining from the Authorities the recognition and regulation of the activities of Cargo Agents as professionals.
• Creating favorable situations which will bring together the National Associations and Cargo Agencies and Logistics Operators with the air, sea and land carriers, as well as with any other Operator.
• The communication, approval and application of the Code of Ethics of the Federation among its Members and among the Agents connected with them.
• The polishing up of the technical training of Cargo Agents through the promotion of courses, seminars, conferences and others.
To achieve these objectives, ALACAT has committed its biggest efforts to:
• Carry out studies and research to provide the institution and its members with the ultimate technical and professional training in pursue of specialization.
• Coordinate International Organizations so they can develop joint programs about topics related to the field.
Relationship with other Associations
• ALACAT maintains, directly and through its active associates, a permanent relationship and representation before organizations such as OAS(OEA), CAN, MERCOSUR, ALADI, IATA and similar ones.
•On the other hand, it is related to sister associations and organizations, such as FETEIA of Spain, FEDESPEDI of Italy, APAT of Portugal and FEDECARGA of Central America.
